HOW DO I BECOME CERTIFIED FOR BEE KEPING AND WILD COLLECTION

1. What do I need to know about certification of Wild Collection and Beekeeping?
Wild collection and Beekeeping activities can be certified according to organic standards. The activities should be done according to the standard and confirmed by the certification bnody.

- The wild and bee keeping activities should be environmentally friendly and free from non-organic materials like unallowed chemicals.

2. What is certified in Wild Collection?
Uncultivated products  and raw materials from the wild; including the collection aeas, mthod of collection and any other activities done after collection.

Examples of wild collection products;
- Wild  raw materials
- Mat
- Nuts
- Buskets
- Mushrooms
- Honey
- Propolis

Cert will also cover all partners involved in the wild collection activities;
. Land owners or managrs
. Collectors and local agents
. Processors
. The operator him/himself

These partners should be contracted and informed about wild collection rules.

3. What do I need to be certified for Wild Collection?
Wild collection activities should be done according to organic standard

These activities include;
- Identify and mark out the collection areas. Products should not be collected from areas where unallowed chemicals are used.

- Do not use collection methods that destroy the environment
- Train all collectors in good collection practices.
- Keep records of the collected products

4. What is Certified in Beekeeping
Bee products from beekeping activities on the farm for exampple;
- Wax
- Propolis
- Honey

Certification will cover;
. Sources of swarms and beeswax
. Bee feeding areas, hives and apiary storage
. Harvesting of bee products and their storage
. Procesing of bee products
. Beekeeping records
. Owner and other beekeepers on the farm

5.  How do I get Certified?
Wild collectors and beekeepers may seek certification through the following steps;
In the First Year;
Step 1: Read the Standard and general information from the TOAM (www.kilimohai.org)

Step 2: Make inquiries from the available certification bodies (CBs). Contact the CBs and receive information on standards, application form, certification costs, and procedures

Step 3: Select  the suitable CB.
Fill in and return the application, negotiate the certification costs, procedures and fee payment. Sign the contract of inspection and certification with the CB.

Step 4: Inspection Agree with the CB when the inspector will come to check wild collection and beekeeping activities and beekeeping activites and recors. Someone should always follow and assist the inspector.

Step 5: Discuss the inspection report with inspector.
Read the report carefully and check for any errors and misunderstandings

Step 6: Respond to all comments from the inspector
Check and fulfill all conditions needed for your certification.

Step 7: Certification decision.
The CB will finally inform you the results of the inspection and the certification decision.
